eBookies.com: Bets

There are a lot of different bets you can make in sports wagering. Here are some of the most common:

MONEY LINE

This is basically a "straight bet" on who will win a particular event. It is laid out like this:

TEAM A -150
TEAM B +130

There is no pointspread or handicap involved. If you want to bet Team A, you will wager $15 to win $10. If you want to bet Team B, you will wager $10 to win $13.

This particular example represents what would be called a "20-cent line." If it was a ten-cent line, Team B would have been +140. If it was a 40--cent line, Team B may have been +110, or it would have been split on both ends, with Team A at -160 and Team B at +120.

PARLAYS

The premise behind parlay bets is pretty simple: they involve more than one proposition, and the bettor must win all of the propositions to win the parlay. The more propositions involved in the parlay, the higher the payoff. So if you were to, say, parlay three different games in an NFL weekend, all three of the games have to win with the pointspread for you to win the parlay. Ties will lose.

Here are the standard payouts for parlay bets:

2 TEAMS -- 13/5
3 TEAMS -- 6/1
4 TEAMS -- 10/1
5 TEAMS -- 20/1

TEASERS

A teaser is a parlay of sorts, in that you have to win all the events involved to win the overall wager. Where it differs is that you are going to get a lower payoff on the one hand, but you are going to be able to make an adjustment in the pointspread - in your favor. For example, let's say you teased three games in college football. In one of them, you had an eight-point favorite. In another, there was a six-point underdog. In the third, there was a ten-point underdog. In a three-team, six point parlay, you can move six additional points to your advantage in each of those games, meaning that now your eight-point favorite is laying only two points; your six-point dog is a 12-point dog, and your 10-point underdog is now getting 16 points. All three of those plays have to win at the adjusted, or "teased" line. Ties lose.

Here is a sample list of payouts for a six-point teaser:

2 TEAMS -- 10/11
3 TEAMS -- 8/5
4 TEAMS -- 5/2
5 TEAMS -- 4/1
6 TEAMS -- 6/1

As you can see, these do not compare favorably with the payouts from a parlay bet, but that is because you are "teasing" all the pointspread in your favor.

There are many different kinds of teasers - 6-point teasers, 6-1/2-point teasers, 7-point teasers, 10-point teasers, 14-point teasers. Although they of course all have different payout tables, they all follow basically the same principle.

FIELD BET

In a field bet, there are more than two entrants to an event, where only one will win. A "futures" bet before the season on who will win the Super Bowl is an example of a field bet. And so all 32 teams are in the field, with various odds connected to them. One of them will win. There are only "one-way" bets in a field, meaning that you can bet that an event will occur, but you can't bet against it occurring. Example - if the Giants were 20/1 to win the Super Bowl in a field, you can only bet the 20/1 - there is no proposition that represents the Giants NOT winning the Super Bowl.

We discuss pointspreads in the NFL and NBA sections. And there are many other kinds of bets.

We will explore all of them - so stay with us right here at eBookies!
