SILVA SLIGHT FAVORITE OVER HENDERSON AT UFC 82

SILVA INSTALLED AS SLIGHT FAVORITE IN UNIFiCATION MATCH WITH HENDERSON

Anderson Silva is a true superstar in the sport of mixed martial arts, so highly regarded that he has been rated the #1 pound-for-pound competitor in the world by Yahoo Sports, ahead of such luminaries as Fedor Emilianenko and Randy Couture. A former PRIDE competitor who has also dominated things in Cage Rage, the jiu-jitsu and Muay Thai master has cut a swath through UFC competition since he signed with them a year and a half ago. Silva won the UFC middleweight title in a minute and 59 seconds in October of 2006. And in his last bout, he beat Franklin again, this time in the second round. On March 1st at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio, he’ll be in the biggest fight of his career, or at least the one with the most on the line, when he takes on Dan Henderson at UFC 82.

In the BetUS UFC betting odds, Silva is a -150 favorite, with a takeback of +120 on the underdog Henderson. The over/under on the fight is 2.5 rounds.

This is a unification fight in the middleweight division, as while Silva holds the UFC middleweight title, Henderson is the reigning champion of the PRIDE brand. Henderson captured that crown in thrilling fashion in Las Vegas last February when he nailed Wanderlei Silva with a left hook even Joe Louis would have been proud of, and ended it at 2:08 of the third round. With that he became the only fighter on any level of mixed martial arts to hold titles simultaneously in two different weight divisions with one organization, as he was already the welterweight champion with PRIDE, winning that championship on New Year’s Eve of 2005 over Murilo Bustamante.

He then fought a stirring “Champion vs. Champion” match against Quinton “Rampage” Jackson in September of last year, losing by a decision in which every second was closely contested..

The winner of this fight will no doubt be able to stake a claim as the best pound-for-pound fighter alive, or at the very least a place right alongside the great Fedor. And the victor will undoubtedly be one step closer to a place in the MMA Memories Hall of Fame.
