eBookies.com: NBA
NBA lines operate similar to the way the NFL lines do - with pointspreads, totals and money lines. Of course, the biggest difference between the NFL and the NBA is that the NBA happens more often. In fact, with the exception of the All-Star break, there is most likely at least one NBA game almost every night from November through the following June, whereas the NFL plays on Sundays and Mondays and occasionally on a Thursday or Saturday.
What this means is that there is a lot of action, and less time to analyze a matchup than there would be in pro football, where you know the result on a Sunday night and have a week to dissect that result along with all the other factors that go into your handicapping. Since NBA teams all play each other at least twice a year, there is a certainly amount of familiarity with everyone else, and teams in the same division play even more often. So "series" results and trends come more into play.
Styles of play are very important in the NBA. Some teams do better against certain styles than others, because tempo can be a key factor, as can things like size and depth. And travel is much more of a handicapping consideration than it is in the NFL or in baseball, because teams often play in one city one night and travel to another city the next to play. Scheduling quirks can find a team with three days rest playing another which is playing its fourth game in five nights. And a team on an eleven-day road trip can find itself up against an opponent which is in the middle of an extended home stand.
All of this, and much more, are a part of the overall handicapping dynamic. And things get a little different in the playoffs, when teams play each other for several games in succession, adding yet another handicapping wrinkle.
Our objective at eBookies is to help you negotiate your way through this maze, with advice articles and regular handicapping selections that he certainly hope can offer an enhancement of your experience. We'll help you be armed and ready!
